The Envision Arts Gallery and Community Engagement Center
Our story:
The Envision Arts Gallery and Community Engagement Center is the premier national destination for artists and audiences who are blind, visually impaired, and/or disabled. Opened in January 2022, the gallery is located in Wichita’s historic Union Station area within the old Patrick Hotel building. The Envision Arts Gallery is a facet of Envision, a nonprofit with headquarters in Wichita, KS that focuses on improving the quality of life of people who are blind or visually impaired through employment, outreach, rehabilitation, education and research.
What we offer:
At the Envision Arts Gallery, artists with vision loss are empowered by being provided a dedicated space for them to exhibit their work and engage with the broader community. This inclusive space for the arts ensures that 70% of the proceeds from exhibitions go directly back to the artists, while the remaining 30% funds the Envision Arts Program. This year-round program is open to people of all ages with vision loss who have a passion for creating artwork.
The gallery has gained national attention, being featured on “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” in November 2023 and again on “Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist” in January 2024. Since its inception, the Envision Arts Gallery has hosted numerous artists with vision loss from across the nation. It has also featured a sighted artist whose exhibition uniquely re-created famous masterpieces such as the “Mona Lisa” and “Starry Night” into bronze-cast tactile artworks, allowing individuals with vision loss to experience these iconic pieces in a new way.
In 2023, the Envision Arts Gallery showcased over 230 exhibitions and hosted more than 40 community events. Numerous partnerships were created within the community to exhibit public-facing artwork and over 2,500 visitors were welcomed to the gallery. This demonstrates the profound impact and reach of Envision’s initiatives.
